Bangkok’s largest shopping malls

Siam is an area in Pathum Wan district located East of the historical district Rattanakosin and the Chao Phraya river. The area houses some of the largest shopping malls in the world, as well as countless restaurants, coffee shops, large cinemas, designer boutiques and several popular tourist attractions.

Shopping centers

Siam is best known for its countless shopping malls. Among them are Central World, Siam Paragon, Siam Center and MBK Center, which are Bangkok’s best known and most upscale shopping centers.

BACC Bangkok Art & Culture Center

The BACC aims to be a center for modern arts, music, film, design and education. On its 9 floors you will find sculptures, paintings, videos and photography. There is an auditorium for musical events and movies, shops, an art library and several galleries. The upper floors are used for exhibitions. Bangkok Art & Culture Center is found on the intersection of Rama I road and Phayathai road, near BTS station National Stadium. Entrance is free.

Jim Thompson House

In a quiet corner of Siam are six very well kept teak wooden houses in traditional Thai style. They are the former residence of Jim Thompson, who revived the Thai silk industry. On display in the houses is a collection of mainly Asian Buddhist art like old Buddha images, paintings and porcelain items.

Madame Tussauds

Come up close to life like wax figures of famous people from across the world. Pose for photos with movie stars, football players, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jackson and other celebrities at Madame Tussauds wax museum in Bangkok.

Ocean World

Sea Life Ocean World in Siam Paragon shopping center houses a large aquarium where visitors can come up close to impressive and beautiful sea creatures as sharks, stingrays, groupers, sea horses and colorful corals. Highlight is the Ocean Tunnel which creates the illusion of walking the ocean floor surrounded by tropical fish.

Kidzania

Also in Siam Paragon is Kidzania, a miniature town with scaled down buildings, roads and a shopping alley. Children can choose from a wide variety of jobs and activities like fire fighter, chef in a Japanese restaurant, surgeon, pilot or car mechanic.

Erawan shrine

Erawan shrine is Bangkok’s most famous Hindu shrine dedicated to Brahma, the four faced God of creation. The shrine attracts a steady flow of worshipers praying, burning incense sticks, bringing flowers and other offerings. The shrine is found in front of the Erawan hotel on Ploen Chit road, near Chit Lom BTS Sky Train station.

Queen Savang Vadhana Museum

Queen Savang Vadhana Museum is housed in Sra Pathum palace, formerly in use as the Royal residence of Queen Savang Vadhana, grandmother of the current King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Set in a beautiful garden the palace turned into museum offers an insight into the way the Thai Royal Family lived.

On display in rooms as the reception room, ceremonial room, bedroom, prayer room and leisure room are original furniture and photos, the Queen’s personal belongings, antique clocks, Louis XVI carved wood chairs, Buddha images and portraits of the Royal Family. The museum is located near the Siam Kempinski hotel behind Siam Paragon shopping center.

How to get to Siam

Siam can easily be reached by BTS Sky Train. The Silom and Sukhumvit line intersect at Siam station.
