The best malls & markets in Bangkok

With its modern, high end air-conditioned shopping malls, local street markets, floating markets, night markets and the famous Chatuchak weekend market, Bangkok is a haven for shoppers of all tastes and budgets.

From traditional handmade Thai handicrafts to Western designer brands, exclusive super cars to fake Rolex watches, it’s for sale in Bangkok.

For luxury shopping, head to Siam in central Bangkok. The area houses some of the largest high end shopping malls in the world including Siam Paragon, Central World and Siam Center.

Central World, Bangkok’s largest shopping mall

A huge, modern, air-conditioned shopping complex in Siam, Central World is one of the two largest shopping centers in Thailand, the other being nearby Siam Paragon.

Here you will find luxury spa products, cosmetics, fashion, sporting goods, books, electronics, a huge cinema complex and even an ice skating rink.

The 6th and 7th floor house a large food court and dozens of restaurants like Fuji, MK, Yayoi, KFC, Burger King, Sizzler and the Pizza Company.

Central World is located on Rama I road, at walking distance from BTS Sky Train stations Chit Lom and Siam. It opens daily from 10 am until 10 pm.

Siam Paragon, Bangkok’s most high end mall

Bangkok’s most upmarket shopping complex, the huge seven floor Siam Paragon is the place to go for luxury brands as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Prada and Dior. Here you can also shop for exclusive super cars as Lamborghini, Maserati and Bentley.

Apart from countless high end shops, Siam Paragon offers entertainment as movie theaters, a bowling alley and Kidzania, a miniature world for children.
At basement level is Ocean World, Asia’s largest aquarium where you can walk through a tunnel surrounded by thousands of colorful tropical fish.

On the ground floor you will find restaurants and a large food court.

Siam Paragon is located on Rama I road next to Central World, opposite Siam BTS Sky Train station. Opening hours are daily from 10 am until 10 pm.

MBK Center, huge mall with a market feel

Less luxury but lower prices at MBK, a huge and busy seven storey shopping center with the feel of a large indoor air-conditioned market with over 2,000 shops and stalls. Vendors sell mainly fashion and beauty products, electronics, jewelry, souvenirs, shoes, handicrafts, cameras and mobile phones.

On the upper floors are a large food court and several restaurants.

MBK Center is located on the intersection of Phayathai road and Rama I road at BTS Sky Train station National Stadium. It opens daily from 10 am until 10 pm.

Siam Center

Shops at Siam Center sell mainly fashion and fashion accessories, beauty products, handbags and shoes for young shoppers with both well known global brands as Estée Lauder and Yves Rocher as well as Thai designer brands.

Restaurants including Sizzler, Fuji and Pizza company as well as a food court are housed on the 4th floor.

Siam Center is located on Rama I road near BTS Sky Train station Siam. Opening hours are daily from 10 am until 10 pm.

Platinum Fashion Mall

Platinum Fashion Mall is a large six floor indoor market with over 2,000 shops. Vendors sell items as clothing, fashion accessories, handbags, souvenirs and Thai handicrafts. Prices can be quite low and can be dropped further if you buy more than one of an item. There is a good food court on the top floor.

Platinum Fashion Mall is located on Phetchaburi road in the Pratunam area. It opens daily from 8 am until 8 pm.

Pratunam Market

Across the street from Platinum Fashion Mall with the towering Baiyoke sky hotel in the background is Pratunam market consisting of an indoor section and an outdoor section with stalls.

It is one of the cheapest places in Bangkok for clothing, fashion accessories, shoes, purses, various handicrafts and electronics. There are also many food vendors at this usually crowded market.

Pratunam market is found on the intersection of Phetchaburi road and Ratchaprarop road. The market is open from early morning until about 9 pm; the indoor shops open at 10 am.

Other markets

While local street markets are found all over the city, there are still a few floating markets in Bangkok.

Taling Chan floating market
One of them is Taling Chan, a small floating market selling mainly food on the Thonburi side of the Chao Phraya river. The market opens every Saturday and Sunday from 8 am until 4 pm.

Larger floating markets are Damnoen Saduak and Amphawa, about an hour and a half drive from Bangkok.

Asiatique night market
Asiatique night market is a large open air shopping, dining and entertainment complex on the banks of the Chao Phraya river. Vendors sell mainly clothing, fashion accessories, handicrafts and jewelry.

After shopping have dinner at one of the river view restaurants serving Thai, Japanese and Western food or try the view from Thailand’s largest Ferris wheel, watch a spectacular Muay Thai boxing demonstration or a ladyboy cabaret show at the Calypso theatre.

Chatuchak weekend market
Chatuchak weekend market is one of Asia’s largest outdoor markets with thousands of shops and stalls selling everything imaginable.

Even if you don’t buy anything it is an enjoyable experience to walk through the narrow alleys browsing the goods for sale and trying some food and Thai sweets at one of the food stalls.

You can get there by Sky Train, MRT Subway or taxi.
If you are near a BTS Sky Train station, take a train on the Sukhumvit line and get off at Mo Chit station.
If you are near a MRT Subway station, take a train on the Blue Line and get off at Kamphaeng Phet station.
Otherwise, take a metered taxi.

Pak Khlong Talat flower market
An abundance of blooms, colors and scents, Pak Khlong Talat flower market is located near the Grand Palace on the banks of the Chao Phraya river. Vendors sell flowers, bouquets and garlands for temple offerings at very low prices.

The easiest way to get there is by Chao Phraya river boat. Exit at Rajinee pier or Memorial Bridge pier.
