Pattaya Beach and Pattaya Bay

Pattaya Beach

Busy beach with water sports

Pattaya beach stretches out over a length of nearly four kilometers from Dusit Thani at the North end to Walking Street at the South end. Along the beach is a promenade lined with palm trees.

Rent a beach lounger

Beach loungers with an umbrella for shade are for rent at 100 Baht. Vendors walk the beach selling ice cream, snack and drinks. Right across Beach Road are dozens of bars, restaurants and hotels.

To Do & See

There is plenty to do on Jomtien Beach, from having a relaxing massage to water sports.

Massage on the beach

You don’t have to leave the beach to get a relaxing foot or Thai massage. Get one shaded by trees just meters away from the water. An hour-long massage will cost about 250 to 300 Baht. There are dozens of massage parlors in town for those who prefer air condition.

Waters sports

Plenty of water sports to enjoy on Pattaya Beach. Ride the waves on a jet ski or banana boat, get an adrenaline boost parasailing or go kiteboarding on the sea.

Parasailing
If you’re looking for a thrill, try parasailing. A short trip by boat brings you to a pontoon floating in the bay where you get strapped into a harness. Then get launched into the air by a speedboat. When the boat slows down, fall back to the sea, only to be drawn right back into the air when the speedboat accelerates. Experience the adrenaline boost hanging under a parachute high up over the sea.

Price is 600 to 1,000 Baht depending on duration. Some operators offer photo or video, for which there is an extra charge.

Jet ski
Although it’s good fun to ride the waves of Pattaya Bay at high speeds, hiring a jet ski is not recommended. A well-known scam is to demand high compensation for damage, often pre-existing or fabricated afterwards by the operator. The argument that follows often becomes very heated and customers are intimidated to pay 10,000 Baht or much more. If you do rent a jet ski, make sure to photograph every scratch and dent before setting off.

Rental fees vary in the range of 1,500 Baht for 15 minutes and 2,500 Baht for 30 minutes.

Banana boat
A banana boat ride is good for a lot of laughs. About six people sit in a row on a long plastic floating tube drawn by a boat. The boat driver tries to eject the riders off the banana boat by making sharp turns in the water. The ride will cost some 300 Baht, including life jackets.

Sea walking

Walk on the sea floor and watch the underwater world like corals and colorful fish in Pattaya Bay. Walk on the bottom of the sea holding on to a rail wearing a helmet that lets you breathe normally under water. Although a fun and unique experience, don’t expect to see abundant marine life.

Yacht and sailing boat charter

Discover some of the less visited islands around Pattaya in luxury. Charter a sailing boat or a luxury yacht and take a half or full day trip to quieter islands around Pattaya Bay like Pai island, Rin island and Monkey island.

Sailing Yacht Thailand in the Ocean Marina Yacht Club has various sailing boats and yachts that can be chartered for shorter or longer trips.

Beach Promenade

The beachfront promenade that runs along the entire beach has recently been refurbished. The footpath shaded by palm trees has been retiled and widened. During the next phase playgrounds for children will be built as well as areas with exercise equipment.

After dark the promenade becomes the hunting ground for young females looking for customers to spend the night with.

Bali Hai Pier

Just South of Pattaya Beach is Bali Hai Pier. Moored along the pier are dozens of speedboats and bigger boats that carry daytrippers to nearby islands.

Bali Hai pier is also the place where the ferry to Koh Larn, better known as Coral Island departs from.

Pattaya viewpoint

Pattaya viewpoint is located on top of Pratumnak Hill, just South of the beach. The observation deck has some of the best views of Pattaya Bay, the town and Bali Hai Pier. Pattaya viewpoint opens daily from 7.30 am until 9 pm. There is no entry fee.
