Bangkok’s new central train station

Bang Sue Grand Station is Bangkok’s new central train station. The station that took seven years to complete is operated by SRT State Railway of Thailand. Officially named Sathani Lang Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Station, it is the largest train station in South East Asia.

Bangkok’s central train station

As of January 2023, Bang Sue has replaced the old Hua Lamphong train station as Bangkok’s central train station. All long distance trains of the State Railway of Thailand now depart at Bang Sue. Although it was initially planned to close the old Hua Lamphong station, it will remain open for a limited number of trains.

Train Lines at Bang Sue

The following train lines operate from Bang Sue Grand Station.

SRT Dark Red Line

The SRT Dark Red Line is a commuter train from Bang Sue Grand Station to Rangsit. On the line are ten stations, including one at Don Muang international airport. The ride takes about twenty minutes and costs 33 Baht one way. A skywalk connects the train station to the airport.

SRT Light Red Line

SRT Light Red Line is a commuter train from Bang Sue Grand Station to Taling Chan, in the Thonburi area of Bangkok, West of the Chao Phraya River. This area houses Khlong Lat Mayom floating market.

MRT Blue Line

The Blue Line of the MRT subway that connects Grand Sue to Bangkok downtown, with stops at among others Sukhumvit and Silom stations.

Long distance trains

Since early 2023 all State Railway of Thailand long distance trains of the the Northern Line, Northeastern Line, Eastern Line and Southern Line depart from and terminate at Bang Sue Railway Station.

Airport Link

In the coming years the ARL Airport Rail Link will be extended to Bang Sue Grand Station to connect the station to Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

High speed trains

Bang Sue will become a station for several international high speed Train Lines that connect Bangkok to Malaysia, Singapore and China.

The Don MuangSuvarnabhumiPattaya U-Tapao high speed railway that connects three major airports will originate and terminate at Bang Sue Grand Station.

Link to Mo Chit 2 Bus station

The train station is right next to the Mo Chit 2 bus station. A walkway will be built that connects Bang Sue station to the bus station.

Facilities at the station are limited. For Thai food, go to the Bang Sue Central Terminal food court.

Location

Bang Sue Grand Station is located in Chatuchak district, about ten kilometers Northeast of the historical Rattanakosin district where the Grand Palace is located.

Get there by MRT Subway Blue Line, SRT Dark Red Line or SRT Light Red Line.
