Also watch a Khon masked dance, which was in previous centuries only performed in the Royal Court. Through movements and expressions, dancers tell a tale of the battle between good and evil, a story from the famous Thai epic Ramakien.

Sites on the river banks

Bangkok’s most famous landmarks are in the historical district Rattanakosin where Bangkok was founded in 1782. From the Grand Pearl cruise ship you will have good views of most historical sites on the river banks like the Grand Palace and the temple of Dawn (Wat Arun), beautifully lit up after dark.

A few hundred meters further up river is the Royal Barges Museum that exhibits ornately decorated historical barges used in the Royal Barge Procession.

Modern landmarks on the nearly 15 kilometer route include high rise condominium buildings, luxury riverside hotels and the Rama VIII bridge, beautifully illuminated at night.
