Face tower at the Bayon in the Angkor Archaeological Park

Opening hours

Angkor Archaeological Park opening times & temple visiting hours

The Angkor Archaeological Park opens at 5 am. Temple visiting hours are from 5:30 am until 6 pm. All visitors must leave the Park after sunset.

These hours apply to all monuments in the Angkor Archaeological Park, including Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Ta Keo, East Mebon, Pre Rup and the Baphuon.

Banteay Srei & Kbal Spean close early

Two monuments close early because of their distance from Siem Reap town.

The Banteay Srei about 25 kilometers Northeast of Angkor Wat closes at 5 pm.

Kbal Spean in the Phnom Kulen Hills about 35 kilometers Northeast of Angkor Wat closes at 3 pm.

Best visiting times

Arriving early has a number of advantages. First, it will allow you to beat some of the crowds and tour buses. Second, temperatures will be a little more modest during the early morning hours. During the heat of the day it can get very hot and humid, especially during the hot season around April and May.

It is not advisable to be in the Park after dark. It would be pitch dark in many places and uneven paths, stones and roots of trees make cycling and walking unsafe.

Sunrise and sunset temples

Angkor visiting hours allow to watch both the sunrise and sunset in the Angkor Archaeological Park. As watching the sunrise and sunset at the temples is a popular activity, some of the temples can get very crowded.

Sunrise temples
Well known spots to watch the sunrise are Angkor Wat, Phnom Bakheng, Ta Prohm and East Mebon.

Sunset temples
Some of the sunset temples are Phnom Bakheng, Pre Rup and Angkor Wat.
